Crown Introduces a Workplace AIDS Education Model, Developed by SCB, to Employees and Customers.
SINGAPORE, January 18, 2008 -- The Crown Worldwide Group, a worldwide leader of global mobility, relocation services, transportation, storage and logistics has adopted the HIV/AIDS awareness program created by SCB to educate the public and create solutions in countries where HIV infection rates are increasing.
SCB has responded to the challenge of the pandemic with their “Living with HIV" program. The goal is to help eradicate the stigma attached to HIV and AIDS, which prevents people from getting tested and thus contributes to its spread.
The bank has pledged to the Clinton Global Initiative to educate one million people on HIV/AIDS in the next three years. Crown has agreed to join the effort and roll out "Living with HIV" in their own organization, and provide education about the disease in developing nations where Crown has operations.
For its role, Crown will select employees to be trained as, and appointed, champions of the cause. Those employees will disseminate the program's message throughout the company and the community, to raise awareness, increase participation and increase knowledge.
Jim Thompson, chairman of Crown Worldwide Group, commented on his company's involvement: "We have all known about the AIDS epidemic for years but many of us are not aware of just how devastating it has been to the people of the developing countries of the world. However, we also know that the work that has been done through educating people about the prevention of the spread of AIDS has had a positive effect. The situation is no longer hopeless. If we can help people to understand what AIDS/HIV is and how it can be prevented, we can reverse the spread and one day we can overcome this terrible disease."
A limited number of employees received training in 2007, kick-starting the effort through a one-day workshop "Living with HIV." Throughout 2008, Crown's branch managers will work to increase the number of volunteers to be trained as Aids Awareness Champions to further drive the cause.
Philip Britton, group vice president of Records Management, Debbie Mannas, regional manager of HRD and strategy for Asia Pacific, and Veronica Chan, executive assistant -- all based in Hong Kong -- will be leading this initiative.
